Hip-hop isn't what it used to be. There was a time when diss songs were blatant, direct, and straight to the point. Now, rappers usually throw subtle shots and subliminals in their songs in order to get people talking. Don't get me wrong, there is a certain art in being able to diss someone subliminally, it's just a different feel. Check out some of the top controversial and subliminal disses of 2015 below.
10. J. Cole- Black Friday
J. Cole took a subtle jab at Future (and potentially Drake) on his freestyle over Kendrick's Alright.
Cole raps, "Let's get the proceedings proceeding this evening! No Promethazine I'm aking. No leaning! I got a better way to fight these demons." which many believe to be a direct response to Future's line in Digital Dash off WATTBA, "I pour the Actavis and pop pills so I can fight the demons"
9. Wiz in "For Everybody"
Wiz Khalifa throws some major shots at Amber Rose in this one.
“Man, I fell in love with a stripper / Funny thing is I fell back out of love quicker / They don’t pay attention to love any way / They only pay attention to what the haters anyway / Bottles be turnin’ these hoes into thots / Instagram turnin’ these wifes into hoes”
8. Drake "6pm in New York"
Drake addresses the "lil homie" aka Tyga.
“I heard a lil homie talking reckless in VIBE/Quite a platform you chose, you shoulda kept it inside/Oh you tried, it’s so childish calling my name on the world stage/You need to act your age and not your girl’s age” ...Yikes.
7. Big Sean "IDFWU"
This song couldn't have been timed better after Big Sean's break up with Naya Rivera. Coincidence? I think not.
6. Rick Ross "Color Money"
Rick Ross steps up to defend his lil homie Meek in this one. He flips some of the lines that Drake says in his infamous Back to Back diss song.
"Color money got your bitch out on a world tour/ My lil’ homie made a million on his girl’s tour/ We back to back and down to wack a ***** unborn/ Miami ***** got ’em changin’ all they gun laws/ So run Forrest, got some shooters and they down, too/ I got more money then that [expletive] that you signed to"
5. Pusha T "Untouchable"
King Push has been throwing jabs and Wayne and Baby for a few years now, this most recent track has a few more in it.
4. Future "Big Rings"
Future throws a slight right hook at Meek Mill criticizing his come up as a philly battle rapper.
"You just a battle rapper / I'm an official trapper"
3. Young Money Cypher 2015
Shots fired from the Young Money crew at Birdman and Young Thug. Too many subliminals to count in this one.
2. Action Bronson on First Take
Action Bronson took a shot at the legendary Ghostface Killah while on Sportsnation. Except in this case, this subtle jab was responded to directly by Ghostface himself. Check out the hilarious interaction below.
1. Drake and Meek Mill
Okay, I know what your thinking. "That beef wasn't subliminal, it was direct!" Well if you listen to both of their diss songs closely no one's name was mentioned directly (although we clearly know they were gunning for each other). This is a new era of dissing, no more "Ether's , Hit em Up's, and Takeover's. You can disrespect someone so much without even uttering their name.
