Skyscraper: The Bruges Whale

 brugus

We always hear about how much plastic pollution is in our oceans.  The numbers are outrageous, almost too outrageous to fathom. The Bruges Whale is a statement sculpture that is putting the plastic pollution problem into perspective.  The whale was constructed by StudioKCA and is made up of 10,000 pounds of plastic that was pulled from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.  The studio says,

“Pound for pound, there is more plastic waste from our cities swimming in the ocean than there are whales … A whale, breaching from the water, is the first ‘skyscraper of the sea,’ and as the largest mammal in the water, it felt like the right form for our piece to take in order to show the scope and scale of the problem.”  Without a doubt, many whales could be made from the amount of plastic pollution there is.  Check out some images of the impressive sculpture below which is located in Belgium.
