E-Cig Meets WiFi

A new patent from tobacco company, Phillip Morris, imagines a web-connected e-cig that tracks users' smoking behavior. Branded as 'Atlantic,' the smart e-cigs can link to your computer or mobile, either wirelessly or with a USB to monitor the user's every drag.

One of the reasons for the smart e-cig is to help people drop their smoking habit for good. It would record every drag to give the user the evidence of their behavior and, in the opposite way to a fitness tracker, encourage them to do less. The patent has plans to get even tougher on smokers, by adding a pay-per-puff feature. The user would use the Internet app on their computer to buy smoking credit and every time they take a drag, credit would be deducted from their allowance.
