Rumor has it that Chance the Rapper was supposed to sign with TDE, but decided not to. It is an interesting dynamic when Chance has collab'd with SZA, Ab-Soul, and was even in a cypher with Isaiah Rashad, but has no content with Kendrick? New Gospel is that song; and with good reason. Both of these artists make analogies and references to God and Christianity very often in songs.
Their religious backgrounds is something that is not 100 percent certain, but I do know that it's hard to be a rapper and uphold religious beliefs or positive morals. Some of Chance's music such as Heaven Only Knows with Towkio, however, sounds exactly like a gospel song. Also, Kendrick's song, His Pain, with BJ the Chicago Kid is also tip-toeing on the boundaries of the gospel genre (both can be heard below). It seems almost too perfect that these two rising stars drop New Gospel. Let's make it happen!
