The Dangers of Synthetic Microfibers

 

 

 Many people may think that something as simple as clothing couldn't possibly be harmful to the environment.  Quite the contrary! The way certain clothing is made, as well and what the clothing is actually made of can have certain effects on our environment.  Synthetic fibers in particular are causing an environmental issue that many people are unaware of.  Since these fibers (such as polyester) aren't biodegradable they can eventually find their way into the ocean.  Every time you wash a garment with synthetic fibers, micro-fibers shed and make their way into the water.  Over years these microfibers pile up and are ingested by sea creatures and eventually us.  This is why it's more beneficial to produce/wear clothing made from materials that are biodegradable.  Superego shirts are made with hemp and organic cotton which are natural fibers and are biodegradable!  Check out the short video below to see a visual of how harmful synthetic fibers are.
