Bobby Shmurda: One Hit Wonder or Next Up?

If you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks and have been out the loop, there is a new face in hip-hop; his name is Bobby Shmurda. Bobby Shmurda's break through song "Hot N*gga" has reached over 3 million views in a matter of months.  Many attribute the songs success to the now popular Shmoney Dance that Bobby does throughout the video.  I also think some of the overly gangsta lyrics have added to it's success.

"I've been selling crack since like the 5th grade"

Since the songs success, he has been on The Breakfast Club, been brought on stage in Miami by Meek Mill, and has most recently signed to Epic. Get this though, the beat used for "Hot N*gga" is not even his beat; Jahlil Beats originally made it for Lloyd Banks on "Jackpot".  Bobby just liked the beat and wanted to rap on it.

The main question that comes to mind behind all of this hype is, Can Bobby Shmurda be a long-lasting artist or does he peak at this song? Well, either way Epic Records thinks they can make some money off of this kid.  There is no doubt that Vine and other social media outlets have helped this song take off due to the humorous dance associated with it, aside from all that I put Bobby Shmurda in the same category as Chief Keef and Trinidad James.  The best thing he can do is ride his wave for as long as he can.  In recent news, French Montana and Drake are slated to drop a remix to "Hot N*gga".  It seems like Bobby Shmurda and his GS9 clique will be in the spotlight real soon.

Check out this recent interview where Bobby Shmurda shows you how to do the Shmoney Dance.
