Maine Becomes First State to Ban Single-Use Styrofoam Containers

 maine styrofoam ban

Governor Janet Mills of Maine signed a bill banning products made of styrofoam for single-use. Mills said, “While that cup of coffee may be finished, the Styrofoam cup it was in is not, In fact, it will be around for decades to come and eventually it will break down into particles, polluting our environment, hurting our wildlife, and even detrimentally impacting our economy.” Although the Maine bill was met with a lot of resistance from those in the plastics industry, it is now coming to fruition.  The bill will take effect on January 1, 2021, which will allow businesses enough time to make necessary changes.  We hope there are more states to follow in the future!
