The North Face has been making some exclusive apparel out of plastic bottles for a year or so now, in fact, we posted last year about their tees made from plastic waste collected from National Parks. Well, the brand continues their mission of re-using plastics; this time they have partnered with National Geographic to create the "Bottle Source" collection. In doing so, they have coined the term "Waste is Over". They made a statement by saying: "Over 8 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced since 1950, and that number is projected to increase to 34 billion metric tons by 2050. As of 2015, only around 9 percent of plastic was estimated to have been recycled. The world is struggling with a single-use plastic crisis and it is time for action."
They have surely taken action with this new collection. Not only are the shirts made from re-used plastics, but the messaging on the shirts is also very strong. Many of the pieces have "Waste is Over" printed in bold letters and are adorned with a printed version of the world. The North Face will also donate $1 from the sale of each Bottle Source item to the National Park Foundation, which in turn will be used to support sustainability projects and programs. The plastic used to make each shirt is gathered from 3 national parks in the United States: Grand Teton, Yosemite, and Great Smoky Mountains. Check out the collection HERE.
